Some movie facts..

When our son was a little boy, going for a movie with him was an ordeal. Every now and then he would feel hungry, then thirsty and then of course there were the impending visits to the toilet. It never stopped with one time, at least a couple of times it would happen. Until he was a bit older it was my duty to take him to the toilet. So going for movies was not fun, NOT AT ALL FUN when he was smaller.
Later on he wanted to see movies, not we dragging him to movies. His father never liked to go for movies if I am not going with them so normally I ended up going with them even though sometimes I hated it. But when son wanted to watch movies like- Cat in the hat, or Harry potter movies, (I watched the first one and that’s all I can stand) I said, nooooooooo ,  no matter what. In the end we came to a deal that I would drop them off at the theatre and I go to a nearby mall, stay there until movie was over. I loved this arrangement; not only I got to spend time at the mall but didn’t have to feel guilty that I left them at home alone.
Then the next phase came when kid didn’t like movies again. We had to drag him with us!! Though he still felt hungry and thirsty, he didn’t bother us, but liked going out and buying things for himself. And not many visit to the toilet…
Then as a teenager now he wants to see movies again and asks us to take him to watch them. He wanted to see “Urumi” so badly. We took him but he forgot to bring his glasses so ended up seeing some lights and heard some sounds I guessJ poor kid, although I don’t feel he missed much. It was an average movie, I would rather watch –‘Oru vadakkan veera gadha’ or old ‘Panchavan kadu’  any given day. The latest demand was that he wanted to watch ‘Paranayam’, said, he wanted to see old people’s romance. Since there was a lot of talk about how great the movie was we thought okay let’s see that.  We went to see the movie in Kalabhavan theatre.  I like this theatre because there won’t be too much crowd and not many drunkards who come just to sleep or make a nuisance to others.
I was disappointed. The story indeed was different from the normal stories. But it was dragging and boring. They could have at least avoided the flashback scenes which gave the movie a comic touch.
I was thinking of the movie ‘Ore kadal,’ what a beautiful movie it was. It was also different from the typical stories. I never found a minute in that movie that was boring or dragging. We went along with the movie as an insider, moving along with the characters. But in this ‘Pranayam’, we were always standing away and watching often times wondering why are we here... We had a detached feeling all the time while watching that movie… in short I didn’t like this movie at all. Blessy is an okay director, I guess that’s all.
We also went to see salt and pepper, a good movie, not boring at all. On our way back at night, son wanted to stop at Ambrosia , bakery and got me a chocolate cake as it was my birthday two days back (I told myself my reminding him of my birthday every day for the past one week has nothing to do with this surprise;).
