Drama Rektha Rekshas

We went to see the famous drama Rektha Rekshas, originally written by Jagathy N K Achari. The drama was good, but I wished they made some changes to fit today’s audience rather than going on with the same old jokes which yielded no response. They brought in real car in the stage and used Dolby sound. That was horrible, I must say because most of the time I felt like someone was inside my heart beating a loud drum. It was not at all pleasant hearing those unbearable sounds.
When I told my son we are going to watch this drama and it could be scary, he wanted to know what exactly a Yekshi is. He was like this; I have seen Mummy movies, Evil Dead etc what could be scarier than that! I told him our ghosts are a little more different than going around with yucky, sticky multi color blood oozing out from their body and losing body parts here and there etc. I told him our Yekshi is a vengeful, beautiful, beautiful blood thirsty female who goes around with the fragrance of palapoo. I did not want to add the black cats jumping across or dogs howling:) He didn’t understand one bit. So I told him to wait and watch.
Talking about Yekshis, I have never heard about male ghosts yet, other than Gandharvans, the men who belong to heaven who comes down to earth when they get in to trouble there. Their duty is to attract beautiful females while on earth. In Padmarajan’s movie Njan Gandharvan, Nitish Bharadwaj made the role of Gandharvan unforgettable. The role was perfect in his hands as the handsome and irresistible Gandharvan. How many times I wished to have a Gandharvan like that in my teenage years.
My son liked the drama, and liked the Yekshi too!!We all enjoyed the drama minus the loud sound.
