A matter of finger and life??

This 14-year-old young kid , used to come home whenever he feels like and hang around . If he thinks the pond doesn’t have enough fish, he will get the fish without us even asking him. He is called Kingini by all others. He is being called by his real name Raju, only by my son in this area. They both play shuttle when they both feels like playing or cricket. His family came from Tamil Nadu and settled here doing odd jobs here and there. He is called Kingini because he has an extra finger each on both his hands. It’s not actually a finger but just some part of it.
About two weeks ago, my mil told me he is eating lunch with his left hand and says that his right small extra finger got hurt. I asked him to show me that finger but he refused at first. Then when I insisted he showed me. The small finger was all red and was turning black from one side. One look at that was enough to make anyone realize that, that part is dead and is decaying. I helped him wrap a bandage loosely around the finger to hold it along with the rest of the fingers which reduced the pain a little bit. I asked if he had been to any hospital and he said, yes there is one hospital where they charge only ten rupees. My husband told me, let us take him to the hospital where we go and he agreed to come.
As soon as the doctor saw the condition of his finger he said, gangrene. Needs to be removed ASAP. We told him we will talk to his parents and bring him in the next day. The doctor also said he has to take the other extra finger too as the fate of it is going to be the same as this one later on. I felt sorry for the kid.
Anyways we told him to talk to his parents. We also told our helper lady to talk to his parents with the hope that she would be able to make some sense in to them. It was obvious that they did not take this matter seriously. The next day, our helper lady came and said, they don’t want to do anything about it. Some astrologer told them if he cuts this small finger it’s going to be bad for his parents’ lives. So his mother said, she will wrap it with rice and salt and it will be healed. I couldn’t imagine that almost rotten finger being wrapped with salt crystals and rice!
