National Geographic magazine

I recently saw a feature titled “Necessary Angels” on the December 2008 issue of National Geography. The feature was written by Tina Rosenberg and photographs were by Lynn Johnson. When I started reading the feature, at first it gave me the impression that it was written with a fair and balanced view without a condescending tone and a preset agenda. But this opinion took a severe beating when I saw the pictures that were printed along with the feature. It was unbelievable to see responsible magazines such as National Geography publishing pictures that are demeaning to women. The picture showing an Indian rural woman bathing within the closed confines of her make shift bathroom, and especially the picture of a woman on a labor table who is sparsely clothed with her legs spread were certainly undignified and a blatant invasion of their privacy.

This is an irresponsible act by National Geography
